“With God, all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
Hi, Coach Brandy here. Somewhere inside you, there is a dream that refuses to let go. A quiet whisper from God reminding you that your life has purpose. This is You Have a Dream Living with Purpose podcast. Hi peeps. Welcome to You Have a Dream Living with Purpose Podcast. This season is called Living in Bloom. This season is about joy, radiance, and presence. Learning to fully live where you are while growing into where you're going. Discovering peace and purpose through the gift of being fully present. The power of presence when living with purpose means you anchor your attention in the season you're in. You need to align your daily actions with your core values and your faith. True power comes from intentional focus. This allows you to move past autopilot. By doing this, you will deepen your personal connections and make a meaningful impact in everything that you do. And you will make an e an impact in your community and your relationships and your friendships and your relationship with coworkers. It's like that little seed that you've planted. It's a mustard seed. So as you move intentionally and authentic and be fully present, you're going to impact others. And you know how I love that. That's one of my favorite things. So today's episode is the power of presence. It reminds us that peace isn't found in what's next. It's found in this moment. Let's breathe, slow down, and rediscover the beauty of now. When you merge presence with purpose, that transform you in how it transforms you in how you navigate through your life. There's two concepts that build on each other to create a deeply intentional life. Mindfulness as a foundation. Being present means stepping away from constant mental chatter and or anxiety about the future. It brings your attention to the here and now. And you free up the mental energy needed to make deliberate choices rather than being on autopilot. In this life, we tend to move on autopilot and we forget how us as humans need that connection. Instead, we look at our phones or we look on our computers and we just tend to work and work and work and not build on those relationships that are here and now. And those are the relationships that help us also grow. So being present and intentional will cleanse your metal mental clutter, your metal clutter too. And your actions become more intentional and authentic. But this is very important because I see that a lot of connections are broken right now. I want us to be making a difference. I want us to show the world how making those connections is very important because there's a lot of just people are unhappy. And I think it's because they're missing the connection with other human beings. They're too involved in their phones. They see if they're watching the news, you see a lot of bad stuff. So walk away from the news. But it didn't injure anybody. And they're still out on the loose. So and these people that are doing these kinds of things are missing that connection. They're missing a side of humanity, if I'm being honest. So I'm not saying they're bad, they just don't have that personal connection. And this is why I find it so important. Because when we live in the present, it anchors you to work towards your goals and living with purpose. Because we tend to carry regret. If we live in the past, when we live in the future, we carry anxiety. But if we live in the right now, the present, we can carry peace. Presence is a practice, a daily return to gratitude. Being in the present creates a small, sacred grap gap gosh, I can't I can't talk. Gap between a stimulus and your response. When true wisdom and purpose-driven choices live, another benefit when you are actively present, you notice subtleties in human interactions, emotions, body language. These are important when we see people's body language, when we pay attention and notice little subtleties, subtleties in what's going on around us, you can also hear in their tone, when we pay attention to how they're talking, in their tone you can hear. Like I'm sure that just a minute ago you heard sadness in my voice because I don't like how we are not having human connection anymore, and it's making a lot of people unhappy and just angry because they're not having that human connection, they're just stuck on their phones or they're stuck on their computers, and that's not that's not a place we need to be. So active attention builds empathy and trust, allowing you to be a more effective leader, parent, friend, co-worker, and living with purpose is built on knowing your values. When you combine this knowledge with a mindful presence, this ensures that your daily habits reflect what you care about and what you're working towards, your goals and your habits align. The gift of now releasing distractions, past regrets, future anxieties. You create authentic connect connections with others and find inner peace. So when you create authentic connections, people feel your energy before they hear your your words. Like I said, they see it in your body language, they hear it in your tone. But most of all, they see it in your confidence, and like I said, how you carry yourself, and they can see it in your energy. And if you're if you're radiating, if you're letting your light show, you're radiating peace, love, kindness. I hope, I really hope that I that's what I radiate when I go out in public. I really hope that I'm radiating love and kindness. I I try to. To be honest, I'm looking for like you know, the jeepers have the little ducks. Well, I was gonna do cows because I love cows, but they're subaros, so I'm trying to think of a way just to connect with others. I just and I don't want it to be to a certain car, I want it to show authentic kindness and it's intentional. So when the person receives that, they smile and know that somebody knows that they matter. Do you know what I mean? I it may sound goofy, but I'm kind of goofy. So they feel your energy as you're you walk into a room, true authentic attentedness, excuse me, attentioness is the ultimate gift to your loved ones, your friends, your co-workers. That means like filling their buckets and having a true connection. So we've talked about filling buckets. When we fill others' buckets, our buckets will overflow. So I I I just love that thought, and you know, being in um in an elementary school setting, we really push that with our students to be, you know, fill others' buckets beside don't take away from their buckets. Excuse me, my allergies are getting to me today. So when we fill other people's buckets, but we won't we don't want to say mean words to them because that takes out of their buckets, so we don't want to empty their bucket, and that's what we say to elementary school kids and our middle school kids. So I you know, I and I love filling people's buckets because it is a true connection. When you live in the present, it relieves stress that and it does this by anchoring yourself in the moment, present, the mind from it. It's like your mind quits spinning because you're not worried about the future, or you're not worried or regretting the past. Most of the time we're worrying about the future, and we always think of the worst case scenarios, you know, the what-ifs. When you stop multitasking and mentally wandering your capacity to perform tasks and absorb experiences, you start to energize and enjoy your inner your journey. Excuse me. In the present, it helps you with the present and you're grounding yourself in your journey. In the present, this helps you view your challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. Which I you know, I've told you that. Um, so it's just it's one of those things. So Romeo, stop it. Can you hear my dog? He's like digging, trying to make you know how they dig and they try to make and then he's he circles around like three times to make a comfortable spot. He's like nesting or something. So presence doesn't mean doing nothing, you guys. It doesn't mean doing nothing, it means doing everything with awareness. So we're doing everything in awareness. Drinking your morning morning coffee, talking to a loved one, journaling. It all becomes part of your daily routine. And it becomes, you know, like when you're doing your journaling and when you're doing your script uh reading your scripture and having your moment in prayer, it's it all becomes part of your worship when you're truly, truly there, when you're truly present, and not just, you know, because I hope that you've made it a habit, but I want you to be intentional about your journaling, about your morning reflection with your um with your scripture and with your um prayers to God. I I want you to be intentional. I don't want you to just be new to it, just to be doing it. I want you to be fully present and aware and read your scripture and understand what it's saying. And you know, when you pray to God, you're praying for that day, the present day of how the day is gonna go. So that so when you're doing that, it is like a true worship worship session with God, and present reconnects you to peace. You can't bloom in a hurry, we've talked about this. When you slow down enough to notice life's details, that's when gratitude grows. So, you know, do mindful exercises, journaling, focus techniques, notice without judgment. Because how do we practice presence? I'm gonna go into some coaching right now. How do we practice presence? You need to anchor in your senses. Alright, so if you feel like you're becoming overwhelmed and you're just you're doing your your you're on pilot mode. Autopilot mode. And you can do this in the car, you can do this anywhere. Use breath, physical sensations, or the sounds around you as you're as you anchor. When your mind wanders, gently bring it back without judgment. Bring it back to the here and now. Nature immersion. So when you feel like you're still, you know, just on autopilot, try to take a walk. Spend some time outdoor observing the trees, the flowers, the sky. Do this at lunch or your surroundings without attaching mental labels to them. Just breathe and enjoy God's beauty. So, and another thing that you can do, and these are ways to make sure that you stay fully present. Um, journaling, this grounds your mind in the here and now while aligning your daily actions with your goals and your values and your faith. Right? So, and then focus their exercises. This is highly attainable. This is a highly attainable action exercise that'll bring you back to the physical world. You can do it anywhere. So you can do that's gonna be the 5-4-3-2-1. Okay, so number five, things you see. Look around and name five distinct details, detailed things in your environment. So if you're sitting outside, you can say the sky, the sun, or if there's a car, you know, you can say there's a blue car. Or if you're by the water, the water is whatever color the water is, because water can be different colors. There's you know, there's pools that are have the darker, you know, like tiles inside, so the water's gonna be darker. But if it's in a pool that has like a blue lining, it's gonna be like more blue-like. But if it's like white lining, it's gonna be like a it's almost gonna be like a sky blue looking. It's really pretty. So notice five things, and then we're gonna go down to four things you can physically touch. Describe how the four different items feel against your skin, like you can do your shirt, right? So my t-shirt is just a cotton t-shirt, it's soft, doesn't weigh a lot, so it's not heavy on my skin. Um let's see, I have on socks. So they're not, I don't think they're made of cotton, they're more like they're more made of like that dry, that dry fit stuff. So I they're really soft, okay. So they're softer than even my t-shirt because my t-shirt's just a cotton t-shirt. But the dry fit feels soft, but it's letting air in, so it's it's kind of airy. And then my pants are just pants, they're I think they're cotton, and they're not heavy, they don't weigh a lot, so you know they're per I'm very comfortable in what I'm wearing. So the things that I and that I can feel, and like my desk is soft at the touch, but it's made of wood, but it's soft, it's not grainy or anything like that. So just touch four things that you can physically touch and touch them and describe how they feel on your skin, and then three things down to three, name three or tune in and identify three separate ambient noises. Okay, so I'm gonna close my eyes, tune in. I hear a TV off in the distance, probably my mom's. I hear a car driving by. My room is silent, so when I'm not talking, it's very silent. I don't have my fan on right now, so I can't say that I heard my fan. But my room is very silent. And so two things. Now you're gonna do two things that you can smell. Pick two distinct scents in the air. I am smelling. I smell my air freshener. Freshener, it smells like watermelon. And then I have my diffuser going. And it smells like so it smells like happiness. It's like orange and lemon, grapefruit. So it smells like happiness to me. And now we're down to one one thing you can taste. Notice a lingering taste in your mouth, or take a quick sip of water. So, like, I've been drinking water, so I don't have any taste, but whenever I do drink water, it like cleanses your palate, and so your mouth feels clean, and your mouth is and your mouth is not. Dry anymore. So that's what I feel. Because I haven't eaten in a while, so that's what I feel when I drink my water. So that's the last thing that I had in my mouth anyway. So try those exercises when you feel like you're just getting away from the present. I also want you to try, let's try just one night a week. Where everybody doesn't have their phone at dinner. We eat at the dinner table as a family. One night a week. Okay, let's try that. One night a week. No phones, no TV going, and just have one night where you're connecting with your family. If you live by yourself, invite a friend to dinner and be completely present at dinner and have a nice conversation. Connect with another human. Try it. You might like it. Before we continue, it's time to take a dream moment. Take a breath for just a second. Think about the dream that's been placed in your heart. Maybe it's something big, maybe it's something quiet that only you and God know. But if that dream is still there, it's there for a reason. So keep walking in faith, keep taking the next step, and trust purpose grows one day at a time. Now, let's get back to the episode. Alright, so we're going to go into guided reflection. Returning to the moment. I want you to close your eyes. Take a slow, deep breath. Notice how your body feels right now. Your heartbeat, your breath, your stillness. Say softly, this moment is enough. If your mind wanders, it's okay. Just return to the now. You don't have to fix the future, but just be here in the now and present. Alright, so grab your journals. And I want you to write down what moments recently made me feel truly alive. Where do I tend to rush or disconnect? How can I practice presence this week? Let's remember, presence is also progress. It's not about control, it's about the connection. Try to pause practice once a day, stop and do your count to five. I am grounded, peaceful, and fully present in this moment. Let's say it together.
