Hi, Coach Brandy here. Somewhere inside you, there is a dream that refuses to let go.
SPEAKER_01The quiet whisper from God reminding you that your life has purpose. This is You Have a Dream Living with Purpose Podcast. Hi Peeps. Welcome back to You Have a Dream. I'm Life Coach Brandy, and I am going to talk today about something that can completely steal our joy and our confidence. Comparison. This episode, Breaking the Comparison Cycle, is all about finding peace in your unique path. When we compare our journey to someone else's, we often lose sight of what God's doing in our own life. But Galatians 4 6.4 reminds us we can take pride in ourselves alone without comparing to others. You're not behind. You're exactly where you're meant to be. So Galatians 6.4 says, each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone without comparing themselves to someone else. So breaking that comparison cycle requires us shifting our focus from external benchmarks to your own personal growth and your own internal values. A society where we are constantly measuring ourselves against others, it kind of sets unrealistic standards and expectations, and it hurts our mental health. Because you know, we get to thinking like, oh my gosh, I'm really not good enough. Yes, you are. You are good enough. You are enough. You're on your own journey. So we're going to audit our inputs. We're going to limit our time on social media and unfollow accounts that trigger feelings of inadequacy or envy. So use comparison as a mirror. Treat the trigger as a clue about your own unfulfilled desires. Then turn that insight into a goal of a source of resentment. Right? We're going to turn it into a goal instead of a source of resentment. Compete only with yourself. That's all you have to compete with. Measure your current progress against your past self rather than looking where others are in their own timelines. So measure yourself to your past self. Have you grown? Have your personal interests changed? Do you live more intentionally? Are you living more purposefully? That's where you need to compare. Compare where you were in the past to where you are now and look at how far you've come in that journey alone. So when we need to practice gratitude, I've told you guys, I've told you this so many times, because you need to regularly regularly acknowledge your unique strengths, your unique achievements, and what you have already done. You need to actively be investing your time in your personal hobbies, your skills, and tangible self-improvement, which is so much more sustainable as a long-term solution than passive avoidance. Don't be passive. Comparison is a confidence killer. It makes you forget that your timing and your story are divine. God's plan for you won't look like anyone else's. And that's the beauty of it. Your journey doesn't look like anybody else's because you're unique and you're special. And it is your journey, no one else's, yours alone. When you compare yourself, you rob yourself joy and gratitude. But we when we stay focused on let's stay in our lane, right? You move in peace. Remember, what's meant for you doesn't have competition. So it's your journey, yours alone, and you're not competing with yourself. You're not competing with anybody else, right? It's not a competition, it is an intentional, authentic, purpose-living life. So the comparison trap is a harmful habit of measuring your own life, worth, or achievements against the lives of other people. Don't measure your life against other people or your worth because you are worth more to God than anybody on this earth. So, why do we do this? Social media, those platforms display filtered, idealized, they highlight the highlight reels that make normal life look inadequate, right? So these people are putting out their putting their best foot forward and not letting you see on the inside. Because on the inside there may be a struggle, and you guys, I'm not shy about my struggles at all. Um, I struggle just like the best of us, and you'll see that when you connect with me on social medias, you'll see that some days I may not be as chipper as others. Um we all have bad days, but I try to, yeah, I'm feeling down or I'm feeling eh, but I try to come and be there for you because I want to be intentional in my journey with you. So you see that my life's not perfect, and I'm gonna tell you it's not perfect. So, but other social media influencers show the best side, they show their best side, so and life's not always like that. Life's not always perfect. I mean, think about your life. Is everything always perfect? Mine isn't at all, but it's good. I find the good in every day, I find joy in every day, and that's all you can do. You can just find the good and joy in each day and not focus on the negatives. Like, if you're so tired and you just feel beat up, find the good in that day. Like, I got all my emails answered. That was an achievement. Or you got all your to-do stuff done on your list, even though you weren't having the best day. You did get those done, so that's a good. So, upward comparison, looking only at people who have more money, better status, or higher success lowers your self-esteem. And I I I'm gonna tell you this. Uh, I'm trying to be honest, money doesn't always buy happiness, it buys things, but it can't buy the relationships, it can't buy joy, it can't buy just having the ability to connect with people. It can't buy that. That is something that's done intentionally and it's in personal, it's personal, not online. So scarcity mindset, that's believing that another person's win means you have lost or fallen behind. Celebrate their wins, look at what happened to them in that win, and say, good for them, they've worked towards that, and I'm proud of them. Instead of saying, I'm falling behind. No, you're not, you're on your own journey, it's your life, and it's your journey. They're on a whole different journey than you are. When you fall into that trap, your mental health suffers, you constantly feel behind, and that leads to chronic stress, lower confidence, so your anxiety goes through the roof. It can steal your joy by focusing on what you lack, blinds you to the good things you already have. It can also damage bonds, envy, and jealousy can breed resentment towards friends, family, or even co-workers, and you don't want that, you want to be happy for their journey and their life while you're not where you want to be, but you're working towards that, you have goals set towards that. Their journey is completely different than yours, right? So, where have you been measuring your progress against someone else's highlight reel? Take that reflection and know, like the reels that I watch. I watch Katie Van Syck, who she's in Tennessee, she has a mini farm, plus she has the bigger farm. Her mom, they live across the street from each other, so they have horses, they have cows, and on her mini farm, she has many cows and many goats and mini horses. And like this weekend, she is at a show here in Tulsa for her minis. So she has her two minis that she's showing this weekend. Um, Jack and uh Gretchen. And Jack is just a year old. I remember when he was born, he was so cute. He was Aunri. He was Aunri. But you can be happy for her, and I mean I like that she's the main person that I watch in reels, like a person person. The rest are like cats and dogs and parrots and birds because they make me happy, and I don't compare myself to other people. I do watch um the private, the Barbie girl, can't think of her name, but she has been on this amazing journey, and I'm not jealous of her. She is teaching women how to put on makeup, although I can't put on makeup the way she does, um, because she's worked at it. I mean, she's been a PI for like 20 years, and so that's what she did in her car as she was doing her investigations. She's amazing, and she's lost like I don't know, I don't know how much she's lost, but she is so beautiful, and she wants you to feel beautiful. That's why she teaches you how to put on makeup so you feel beautiful. Now, I don't wear makeup every day. I don't I'm not out to impress anybody, so that's I try not to compare myself to anybody else because you know Katie and whatever her name is. What is her name? I can't think of her name. Um, but they're younger than me, so they're in a different stage of their journey, right? And so that's why I just watch animals. The zoos and stuff, watch funny videos, yeah. So that's what I do because you can't you don't want to get yourself stuck in the comparison of their highlight reels of their life, where their life may look completely different off camera. So don't compare yourself. Don't compare yourself. So gratitude is an antidote to comparison. When you thank God for what you already have, you create a space for more blessings. You stop thriving, you stop striving and start thriving. So gratitude along your journey. We've talked about this multiple times, but practicing gratitude in your journey means shifting your focus from a distant destination to the value of your current growth, live in the present. When you appreciate the process, you protect yourself from the comparison trap by valuing your own unique journey because everybody's journey is unique, everybody's in a different place in their journey. And why gratitude matters along the way? It anchors you to the present, it pulls your mind away from what's next or who's ahead and roots you in what you have right now. It rewires your brain to focusing on small wins, and it trains your mind to spot opportunities instead of the gaps. It builds your resilience. Acknowledging daily progress helps you endure the setbacks without looting losing motivation because you're always going to have step setbacks. It your journey is not, excuse me, your journey is not going to be perfect. Nobody's journey is perfect. We always have things that we need to learn along the journey that you view as a setback, but it was a learning moment, it was a teachable moment, and those are important in our personal growth. So it also, whenever you're not comparing, it improves your mental health and your health altogether because then it lowers your stress, it means better sleep, a stronger immune system, and it lowers your blood pressure because you're not comparing. Don't compare. Saying thank you makes others others feel valued, which builds stronger and happier relationships. Again, this appreciation creeps the creeps. Goodness, quit talking so fast. This appreciation creates the positive ripple effect, and you know how I love the positive ripple effect. Remember to notice small joys. Write little notes to someone telling them that you appreciate them. They'll appreciate that. And again, it's the ripple effect. When people feel appreciated, I mean think about it, when you feel appreciated, your confidence goes up. You have a little pep in your step, and you'll be I I when you have a pep in your step, you find the little joy, you find the little good in each day. So send someone a thank you note saying thank you, I appreciate you for, and then tell them what you appreciate them for. Before we continue, it's time to take a dream moment. Take a breath for just a second. Think about the dream that's been placed in your heart. Maybe it's something big, maybe it's something quiet that only you and God know. But if that dream is still there, it's there for a reason. So keep walking in faith, keep taking the next step, and trust purpose grows one day at a time. Now, let's get back to the episode. Welcome back, peeps. Your lane, your light. Right? Your lane, your light. So I'm gonna go into the guided reflection. Take a deep breath. Close your eyes. Picture yourself walking on your own path. One that's beautifully lit just for you. There are flowers blooming in your lane, not anyone else's. Whisper to yourself. I honor my pace, I trust my process. Now imagine yourself smiling, free, light, and content. That phrase captures a beautiful perspective on life, your lane through light, means focusing entirely on your own unique path, trusting your individual timing, and letting your personal strengths shine without comparing yourself to others. What does this mean for your journey? Thanks for asking. You're lame. This represents your specific path, your unique journey, your pace, and your purpose. It's a reminder to run your own race, stay focused on your personal goals, and tune out the pressure of what everyone else is doing. Your life. This represents your unique talent, your unique perspective, and your inner energy. It's a reminder that you don't need to mimic someone else's glow. You simply need to let your own authentic self shine brightly. To eliminate comparison is a mindset shift. We've talked about this shift. It's a mindset shift. And it matters when you eliminate comparison. It reminds you that your journey cannot be measured against someone else's timeline. It also conserves your energy instead of wasting effort looking left and right at what others are achieving. You channel a hundred percent of your energy into your own growth. It can foster self-acceptance, reinforce the idea that you are exactly where you are supposed to be, possessing everything you need to succeed in your specific life calling. Right? So we may not be complete on our journey, but we're right where we need to be. We're on our path, we're in our lane, but we're also sharing our light to the world as we go on our own journey. We're still sharing our light, sharing Our love, sharing our kindness, sharing our joy, sharing our gratitude along our journey. That way it's the rule effect to others. And like I said, it builds bonds that you specifically need at that point in your journey. It builds bonds that are honest, intentional, and unique, just like you. So let's grab our journals. And we're gonna say, excuse me, where in my life have I been compared instead of celebrating? Where are you comparing instead of celebrating what you've accomplished thus far in your journey? What blessings can I thank God for in this season? And what makes my journey uniquely beautiful? It's you. You are uniquely beautiful. And I'm glad you're here. You are the only you that God made, and that means your path is sacred. Right with gratitude, not judgment. And your affirmation for this week is I am secure in my purpose, I celebrate others without comparison, and trust that my journey blooms in perfect timing. So we're going to understand that that is a powerful statement. I am secure in my purpose. I celebrate others without comparison and trust that my journey blooms in perfect timing.
